Pakistan’s electric vehicle segment continues to grow with the arrival of compact and city-focused EVs.
Two notable contenders in this category are the Dongfeng Box EV and the MG Binguo EV, both recently launched in Pakistan by Dongfeng Motors and MG Motor Pakistan, respectively.
While both models target urban commuters seeking affordable electric mobility, they differ in pricing, performance, and safety offerings.
Variants and Price Comparison
The MG Binguo EV is offered in Pakistan in a single fully equipped variant, priced at Rs 5,999,000, making it one of the most affordable electric cars currently available in the local market.
In contrast, the Dongfeng Box EV is available in two variants. The Lux 430 is priced at Rs 6,400,000, while the top-spec Flagship 430 comes with a higher price tag of Rs 6,800,000.
Although more expensive than the Binguo, the Box EV offers additional features and a longer driving range.
Performance, Battery, and Range
The MG Binguo EV is powered by a 31.9 kWh Lithium Ferro-Phosphate (LFP) battery, paired with an electric motor producing 67 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque.
Designed primarily for city driving, the Binguo delivers smooth acceleration and efficient performance. It offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 273 km on a single charge.
Charging options include DC fast charging, which allows the battery to recharge from 30% to 80% in around 35 minutes, while AC home charging takes approximately 5.5 hours from 20% to 100%, ensuring daily convenience.
The Dongfeng Box EV, on the other hand, is equipped with a more powerful 95 hp electric motor and a larger 42.3 kWh lithium battery.
This setup enables a claimed range of up to 430 km on a full charge, making it more suitable for longer commutes and occasional intercity travel.
With a top speed of 140 km/h and a charging time of around 6 hours, the Box EV offers a balanced mix of power and practicality.
Safety Features Comparison
In terms of safety, the MG Binguo EV comes with essential features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and cruise control, making it a safe option for everyday city use.
The Dongfeng Box EV takes safety a step further by offering dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
These advanced driver-assistance features give the Box EV an edge in overall safety.
Verdict
For buyers looking for a budget-friendly electric hatchback, the MG Binguo EV stands out with its competitive pricing and urban-focused efficiency.
However, those seeking longer range, stronger performance, and advanced safety features may find the Dongfeng Box EV worth the higher price. Both models play a key role in expanding affordable EV options in Pakistan.
