Hollywood star Drew Barrymore is getting candid about life at 50, revealing the emotional and physical challenges she has faced while navigating hormone therapy and the natural aging process.

In a recent interview with People magazine, the Charlie’s Angels and 50 First Dates actress admitted that her first experience with hormone therapy for menopause symptoms was far from smooth. “Everyone said it would be trial and error, and I just went through a lot of error,” she confessed, describing the phase as “tough.”

Barrymore humorously recalled feeling unrecognizable during that time, saying, “I did not recognize the person I saw in the mirror. I was like, ‘Is that the crypt keeper? No, that’s me.’” The actress noted her face appeared “sallow and puffy from hormones,” leaving her feeling low in confidence.

Despite the struggles, the talk show host emphasized the importance of self-care and emotional balance. “Every time I feel that way, I’m like, ‘Okay, buckle down: eat cleaner, prioritize sleep, start exercising, and get back to center,’” she said.

She credited her therapist and mentor, Dr. Barry Michels, for helping her stay grounded through a personalized list of “seven healthy habits” that she continues to follow. “It’s faded over time, so I retrace it with a black pen because it really helps,” Barrymore shared.

The actress encouraged others to take small, positive steps toward self-acceptance, adding, “It’s not good to stay stuck or not feel confident. These are little ways to help yourself feel better.”
