ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) convened on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Asad Umar and approved a comprehensive Ramazan Relief Package worth Rs2 billion.
The package aims to provide essential commodities at subsidized rates to support low-income households during the Holy Month of Ramazan.
During the meeting, the ECC emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits of the Ramazan Relief Package reach the most vulnerable segments of society. The committee reiterated its commitment to making essential food items available at controlled prices throughout Ramazan, easing the financial burden on citizens during this sacred month.
In addition to the Ramazan Relief Package, the ECC sanctioned a supplementary grant of Rs16.976 million for the Textile Division to facilitate the sector’s ongoing initiatives. Furthermore, the committee approved a supplementary grant of Rs7,415.486 million for the Finance Division to support Financial Inclusion & Infrastructure Projects (FIIP). Another Technical Supplementary Grant amounting to Rs562 million was also approved, alongside an additional Rs742.531 million for the SAP Software License Payment.
To enhance the revenue collection capabilities of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the ECC approved a supplementary grant of Rs1 billion. This financial boost is expected to improve the efficiency of tax collection and contribute to the government’s broader economic reform agenda.
The ECC also addressed long-standing concerns related to the legal heirs of deceased employees of Pakistan Steel Mills. To resolve outstanding dues linked to Provident Fund, Gratuity, and Payroll, the committee sanctioned a grant that will ensure timely payments to the affected families.
Additionally, Secretary Water Resources and Chairman WAPDA provided separate briefings on various water infrastructure projects, including key national initiatives such as the Mohmand Dam, Diamer-Bhasha Dam, and Dasu Dam. The progress and financial requirements of these projects were discussed in detail.
As Ramazan approaches, the ECC reaffirmed its dedication to economic stability and public welfare by ensuring timely implementation of the Ramazan Relief Package, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting citizens in need.
