Islamabad, February 12, 2026 – The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has officially commenced the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme, offering electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders on easy installments with government subsidies, aimed at providing affordable, eco-friendly transportation to the public.
Speaking on Thursday, EDB CEO Hamad Ali Mansoor highlighted that the initiative under the Prime Minister’s vision seeks to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on fossil fuels while promoting sustainable transport solutions.
Under the scheme, electric bikes are subsidized up to Rs 80,000, with funds directly transferred to approved bank accounts through the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Additionally, electric bikes and rickshaws are available on flexible installment plans through bank leasing facilities.
Mansoor stated that the government plans to provide around Rs 9 billion in subsidies during the current fiscal year, with a long-term target of exceeding Rs 100 billion by 2030. In the first phase, subsidies are being disbursed to 41,000 beneficiaries, including 40,000 electric bikes and 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders. The second phase will cover over 78,000 electric vehicles.
The scheme primarily targets students, youth, and women, encouraging the adoption of clean transportation. Mansoor emphasized that only vehicles acquired through the approved PAVE procedure are eligible for subsidies.
The PAVE initiative aims to promote local EV industry, reduce environmental pollution, lower fuel import bills, and foster a sustainable transport ecosystem across Pakistan.
