Legendary musician Elton John, now 77, has reportedly simplified his signature to just the letter “E” followed by a kiss. This adjustment comes as his deteriorating eyesight has made it increasingly difficult for him to write out his full name, according to The Sun.
Fans who purchased limited-edition sets of his highly anticipated new album, Who Believes In Angels?, priced at £24.99, were informed in advance about the modification to his autograph. Despite his ongoing vision struggles, Elton John remains committed to his music, ensuring that his artistic output continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
Elton John has been candid about his worsening eyesight, previously voicing concerns that it might prevent him from completing his latest project. However, with determination and passion, he successfully finished Who Believes In Angels?, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile, which is officially scheduled for release on April 4.
The Rocket Man singer’s vision problems became particularly severe last July when he lost sight in his right eye due to an infection while vacationing in the South of France. Unfortunately, his left eye has also been affected, making everyday activities increasingly challenging.
In December, Elton John revealed that his vision loss had prevented him from attending previews of his new musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada. “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” he shared. “But I love to hear it.”
Speaking on Good Morning America, Elton John opened up about how profoundly his vision loss has impacted his daily routine. “It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything,” he admitted. “I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”
When asked about his ability to create new music, Elton John acknowledged the difficulties he now faces in the studio. “I can do something like this [interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for start,” he explained.
Despite these challenges, Elton John remains resilient, proving that while his vision may have diminished, his unwavering passion for music continues to shine as brightly as ever.
