Elton John, the iconic 77-year-old music legend, has disclosed that he has lost his eyesight due to complications from a severe infection. The announcement came on Sunday night during a heartfelt address to guests at London’s Dominion Theatre following the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.

“Some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it,” John shared with the audience, as reported by the Daily Mail. Despite his visual challenges, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the production through sound.

The Grammy-winning artist took a moment to acknowledge his husband, David Furnish, who has been a pillar of support during this difficult period. “To my husband, who’s been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight. It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it,” John remarked in a TikTok video. “And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!”

Elton John, who composed the original score for The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, praised the cast and the production, which features Tony nominee Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly. The event also drew notable attendees such as Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, actress Lily Collins, and Elizabeth Hurley.

This isn’t the first time the singer has discussed his vision challenges. In September, John revealed he had “limited vision in one eye” after battling a severe eye infection over the summer. At the time, he shared in a statement, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.” He also expressed gratitude for the medical professionals and his family who have provided unwavering support throughout his recovery.

Despite these challenges, Elton John remains resilient, focusing on his passion for music and the joy it brings to audiences worldwide.
