Filming for Emily in Paris Season 5 has officially resumed in Italy after a brief pause following the sudden death of one of the show’s assistant directors.
The Netflix hit series, which began production on August 15, 2025, temporarily halted shooting earlier this week after the tragic loss of Diego Borella, who passed away due to a suspected heart attack while on set.
On Saturday, August 23, lead actress Lily Collins, 36, was spotted filming a picturesque scene on a gondola in Venice. She was joined by co-stars Ashley Park, Eugenio Franceschini, and Paul Forman, as cameras rolled again for the highly anticipated fifth season of the romantic comedy-drama.
The tragedy occurred while the production team was filming at Hotel Danieli, a historic luxury hotel in Venice. According to La Repubblica, local doctors confirmed Borella’s death, attributing it to a “sudden heart attack.”
In a heartfelt statement to Variety, a spokesperson for Paramount Television Studios expressed condolences:
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the Emily in Paris production family. Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Despite the somber circumstances, production has resumed with cast and crew determined to honor their late colleague’s memory while continuing the beloved series.
Season 5 is expected to continue the adventures of Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, as she navigates love, career, and friendships against the backdrop of stunning European locations. With Venice now part of the storyline, fans can expect even more glamorous fashion moments and dramatic plot twists.
Netflix has confirmed that Emily in Paris Season 5 will premiere on December 18, 2025, ensuring fans can look forward to new episodes despite the heartbreaking loss during production.
