Emma Stone recently shared a hilarious take about her Bugonia co-star, playfully suggesting he might not be from this planet.
While promoting her upcoming sci-fi comedy Bugonia on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Oscar-winning actress was asked which of her co-stars she thought could be an alien. Without hesitation, Stone replied, “Willem Dafoe. Hundred percent.”
Her quick and confident answer drew laughter from the audience. Colbert responded, “You did not have to think about that very long,” to which Stone quipped back, “It’s so simple. I mean, don’t you, of course?”
The La La Land and Poor Things star went on to praise Dafoe, calling him a one-of-a-kind performer. “If it was like, Willem Dafoe’s actually an alien, everyone would be like, ‘Yeah! Obviously. And a great one!’” she said. “If they’re all like Willem, bring ’em on! Land upon Earth, please!”
Colbert joined in the fun, joking, “He’s an alien in a very well-fitted man suit,” to which Stone replied, “My favorite alien.”
Stone and Dafoe have collaborated on two Yorgos Lanthimos films — 2023’s Poor Things, which earned Stone an Oscar, and 2024’s Kinds of Kindness.
Though the two never shared scenes in Spider-Man films, both are linked to the franchise — Stone portrayed Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield, while Dafoe famously played the Green Goblin in Tobey Maguire’s 2002 version.
