Bruce Willis’ family continues to confront painful and complex decisions as the beloved actor’s health declines, and his wife Emma Heming Willis says she is stunned by the negative public reaction to their choices.
Speaking emotionally at the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles, the 47-year-old model and actress said the criticism surrounding Willis’ recent move into a separate home has been especially heartbreaking.
“These are hard decisions. These are impossible — I’m getting choked up thinking about it. They’re impossible decisions. This is not how I envisioned our life,” Emma said, fighting back tears while describing the impact of her husband’s worsening condition.
Emma explained that her priority has always been the safety and well-being of their family. “I had to make the best and safest decision for our family, and I knew by being honest and open about it that it would be met with a lot of judgment,” she shared, acknowledging the backlash that followed their announcement.
Despite the criticism from outside observers, Emma emphasized that those closest to Bruce fully understand the situation and have offered unwavering compassion. “I also have Bruce’s mother who is in her 90s. I have Bruce’s brother and sister and cousins and they have been so loving and supportive and nonjudgmental,” she added.
Since Bruce Willis, 70, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, Emma has taken on a greater caregiving role while also protecting the emotional stability of their daughters, 13-year-old Mabel Ray and 11-year-old Evelyn Penn. As the Sixth Sense and Die Hard star’s condition continues to worsen, the family remains united, navigating their challenges with strength, love and mutual support.
