London, July 12, 2025 – India’s senior batter KL Rahul lit up the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground with a sublime century, marking a historic milestone on Day 3 of the third Test against England.
His patient yet commanding innings helped India stabilize their reply to England’s first-innings total of 387.
India stood at 330 for 6, trailing by 57 runs in the third session, with Rahul’s century emerging as the highlight of the day. The right-hander brought up his century off 177 deliveries, laced with 13 boundaries. It was not only a masterclass in technique and temperament but also Rahul’s second century at Lord’s—cementing his status as one of the few Indian batsmen to achieve that feat at the “Home of Cricket.”
Opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who fell early for 13 to Jofra Archer, Rahul anchored the innings with grit and finesse. He found support in Karun Nair (40) and Rishabh Pant, who added a crucial 74-run knock to push India closer to England’s total. Despite a middle-order wobble that saw Shubman Gill (16) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) dismissed without capitalizing, India remained in the hunt thanks to Rahul’s century.
England’s bowling attack, led by Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, had to work hard for their breakthroughs. Archer and Stokes took two wickets apiece, while Shoaib Bashir dismissed Rahul, caught by Harry Brook just after he reached his century.
Ravindra Jadeja (46*) and Washington Sundar (1*) were on the crease as India eye a first-innings lead. Jadeja’s composed innings has provided the lower order with much-needed stability.
This century marks yet another defining moment in Rahul’s Test career. Coming under pressure after a lean patch, the stylish right-hander answered critics with a mature and impactful innings. His innings has not only put India in a strong position but also etched his name deeper into Lord’s illustrious history.
With two days left, the Test remains evenly poised. All eyes will be on Jadeja and the Indian tail to bridge the gap—and on England’s bowlers to reclaim momentum. But the day clearly belonged to Rahul and his unforgettable century.
