England has revealed their 15-member squads for the upcoming India tour and the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy. The tour, which kicks off next month, will see the English team compete in a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series in India, followed by the Champions Trophy in early 2025.

A notable inclusion in the ODI squad is veteran batter Joe Root, who returns to the format after a break since the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Root, 33, had played a key role in England’s 2019 World Cup victory.

However, the team’s campaign in the 2023 edition ended early, with just three wins from nine matches in the group stage. Root brings invaluable experience, having scored 6,522 runs in 171 ODIs, with an impressive average of 47.60, including 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries.

Ben Stokes, the all-rounder, has been excluded from the squad due to his ongoing recovery from a left hamstring injury sustained during England’s third Test against New Zealand earlier this month.

Both the T20I and ODI squads will be led by regular captain Jos Buttler and feature a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent. The T20I squad includes 20-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed, who has not been named for the ODI series or the Champions Trophy.

The England squad for the India tour and Champions Trophy is as follows:

ODI Squad (India Tour & ICC Men’s Champions Trophy):

Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Mark Wood

T20I Squad (India Tour):

Jos Buttler (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Mark Wood

England’s India tour begins on January 17, with the first T20I scheduled for January 22 in Kolkata. The ODI series will follow from February 6 to 12, before the team heads to the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, scheduled for February and March.

The upcoming series will be an exciting opportunity for England to fine-tune their squad and preparations ahead of the Champions Trophy. With a mixture of established stars and promising young players, England’s squad is poised for a competitive showing on the subcontinent.
