England have sealed the three-match T20I series against West Indies with a 4-wicket win in the second game on Sunday. This victory gives England a 2-0 lead, ensuring they win the series with one match left to play.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for England, but they showed enough composure to get over the line. The West Indies, meanwhile, continue to struggle on their tour of England, now suffering five straight losses—including a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series. Despite 395 runs being scored in this match, surprisingly no batter reached a half-century.
England began their chase with an early setback as Jamie Smith fell quickly. But Jos Buttler, in top form, and Ben Duckett responded aggressively. Their sharp shot-making pushed England to 58/1 in the powerplay, just ahead of West Indies’ 55/1.
The duo looked set for a big partnership, but Rovman Powell took a stunning catch to break their 63-run stand. Buttler had earlier survived a dropped chance on 43, and England were 87/2 at the halfway point.
In the first innings, West Indies were 90/1 at one stage, but lost momentum to end on a slightly underwhelming total after slipping to 117/4. A late flourish added 75 runs in the final four overs. England’s bowlers, especially Luke Wood, who was named Player of the Match, kept things tight.
During England’s chase, a brief collapse saw them fall from 112/2 to 126/4, giving West Indies hope. But quickfire cameos from Bethell and Banton powered England back on track, with 49 runs coming in three overs to put them ahead again. Some loose West Indies bowling made the final stages easier.
Wood, reflecting on his performance, said it felt great to return after a long absence and contribute. Captain Harry Brook praised the bowlers and highlighted England’s depth, calling it a great start to his leadership.
West Indies captain Shai Hope admitted they fell short with the bat and need to improve their strike rotation. Still, he hopes to end the T20I series on a high when the final match is played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
England lead the T20I series 2-0 and will aim for a clean sweep in the last game.
