London, July 14, 2025 – England delivered a stunning performance on the final day of the third Test at Lord’s to seal a 22-run win over India, gaining a 2-1 advantage in the gripping five-match series.

This Test, part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025–27, has tilted momentum firmly in England’s favor heading into the final stretch.

After two tightly contested matches, England turned up the heat in London. Defending a modest target of 193, the home side’s pace attack, spearheaded by Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, dismantled India’s batting order. Archer (3-55) and Stokes (3-48) led the charge, while Brydon Carse (2-30) and Chris Woakes (1-21) provided critical support to complete the job.

England struck early on Day 4, reducing India to 58/4 by stumps, and carried that momentum into Day 5. Archer immediately made an impact, clean bowling Rishabh Pant in the third over. KL Rahul, who had looked solid with 39 off 58, was undone by a sharp inswinger from Stokes. Archer’s acrobatic caught-and-bowled dismissal of Washington Sundar left India teetering at 82/7.

India showed brief resistance through a gritty stand between Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy, but Woakes broke the partnership right before lunch. Post-lunch, Jasprit Bumrah supported Jadeja with determination, but his dismissal at the hands of substitute fielder Sam Cook all but sealed India’s fate.

Jadeja’s lone effort, a brilliant half-century—his fourth in the series—was not enough to drag India over the line. The final blow came when Shoaib Bashir’s delivery trickled off Mohammed Siraj’s bat and onto the stumps, bowling India out for 170 and handing England a thrilling victory.

Earlier in the Test, England had won the toss and posted 387 in the first innings, thanks to Joe Root’s magnificent 37th century. India matched that total run-for-run, a statistical rarity in Test cricket. Rahul’s century and valuable contributions from Pant and Jadeja highlighted India’s balanced reply.

Despite India bowling England out for just 192 in the second innings—led by Sundar’s four-wicket haul—the chase proved too much. England’s fiery fast bowlers ensured the target was never within reach.

The high-stakes fourth Test between England and India begins on Wednesday, July 23, at Old Trafford, Manchester.
