EOBI pensioners to get higher payments from September 1

old age

ISLAMABAD, August 31, 2025 – Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, announced that the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) will disburse around Rs 10 billion under its monthly pension payroll, ensuring that pensioners receive their revised amounts along with arrears.

Speaking to a national daily, the minister confirmed that nearly 500,000 pensioners registered with EOBI will benefit from the increase starting September 1, 2025. He said that the government’s decision reflects its strong commitment to improving the living standards of retired workers who have contributed to the country’s workforce for decades.

Earlier this year, the Federal Cabinet approved a significant enhancement in EOBI pension rates. The minimum pension has been raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,500 per month, effective from January 1, 2025. Additionally, a 15% increase has been approved for formula-based pensions, allowing long-serving employees to receive monthly payments exceeding Rs 30,000.

The minister also revealed that plans are underway to broaden the scope of EOBI by including informal, domestic, and agricultural sector workers, thereby extending pensionary benefits to previously unregistered categories. A high-level committee has been tasked with preparing recommendations for this expansion.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication, Hussain said that ensuring social protection for all citizens is a constitutional obligation under Article 38(c). He added that EOBI’s reforms will continue to focus on transparency, timely payments, and wider coverage to safeguard the interests of Pakistan’s workforce.
