Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot is taking a heavy hit at the box office, earning just $11.7 million on its second Friday in theaters.
Despite the sharp decline, the 2025 superhero film managed to hold onto the No. 1 spot in its second weekend, fending off competition from The Bad Guys 2 and The Naked Gun.
According to industry reports, the $11.7 million figure marks a staggering 80% drop from the movie’s debut weekend. Analysts warn that if the downward trend continues, the film could fail to reach its projected second-weekend earnings of $45–$52 million by Sunday.
So far, Fantastic Four has grossed $170 million domestically, with forecasts placing its weekend total at around $198 million. This would put it just shy of its massive $200 million production budget, raising concerns over its long-term profitability. The film had opened strong with $118 million, but audience turnout appears to be slowing at a worrying pace.
The reboot stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, marking Marvel Studios’ first successful introduction of a new super team since the pandemic. Previous MCU ensemble films such as Thunderbolts (2025), The Marvels (2023), and Eternals (2021) failed to meet box office expectations, putting extra pressure on Fantastic Four to deliver.
However, the film is struggling to expand its audience beyond core comic book fans. Despite its high-profile cast and initial hype, reviews and word-of-mouth appear mixed, which may be impacting repeat viewership.
In box office rankings, Universal and DreamWorks’ animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 secured second place, earning $9.1 million on Friday from 3,852 locations. The family-friendly hit is expected to reach $22 million by the end of the weekend.
Meanwhile, The Naked Gun, starring Dave Franco as Detective Frank Drebin Jr., claimed the third spot with $6.3 million from 3,344 theaters. The comedy reboot has been generating steady interest but remains behind the animated competition.
With several major releases on the horizon, Fantastic Four faces an uphill battle to recover its momentum. Whether Marvel’s newest team of heroes can rally in the coming weeks will determine if this reboot becomes a long-term franchise or a one-off attempt.
