FAW Bestune Pony goes bigger with five-door design and 328 km range

The updated electric hatchback arrives in China with improved rear-seat space, a larger boot, two battery options, and a starting price of 44,900 yuan.

FAW Bestune has introduced a five-door version of its Pony electric hatchback in China, expanding the model’s appeal with a longer body, improved passenger comfort, and increased luggage capacity. The new electric car starts at 44,900 yuan (approximately $6,735) and offers a claimed driving range of up to 328 km on the CLTC cycle.

The original Bestune Pony was offered exclusively as a three-door electric hatchback, measuring just 3,000 mm in length. Its domestic price ranges from 34,900 to 42,900 yuan. However, sales have faced pressure, with 47,929 units delivered between January and September 2026, representing a 37.5% year-on-year decline.

Five-Door Design Brings More Space

Launched on October 28, the new five-door Bestune Pony features dimensions of 3,350 mm in length, 1,540 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. Its wheelbase measures 2,215 mm, providing a more spacious cabin than the three-door model.

Compared with its predecessor, the updated hatchback is 350 mm longer and 30 mm wider, while its height is reduced by 30 mm. The wheelbase has also increased by 262 mm, helping create additional legroom for rear passengers.

The car retains the Pony’s distinctive boxy appearance, featuring rounded headlights, matching taillights, a compact front air intake, semi-hidden door handles, and 13-inch wheel covers. Buyers can choose from five exterior colours: orange, blue, green, brown, and white. The vehicle also offers 130 mm of ground clearance.

Larger Boot and Updated Interior

Inside, the four-seat electric hatchback features a two-spoke steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument display, and an optional 10.1-inch central touchscreen. Rotary controls are positioned beneath the infotainment screen.

The extended body also improves practicality. Luggage capacity has increased from 81 litres in the three-door version to 265 litres. Folding the rear seats expands the available storage space to 1,052 litres.

Battery Options and Driving Range

The Bestune Pony is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 30 kW, equivalent to approximately 40 horsepower. It is available with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs rated at 17 kWh and 27.2 kWh.

Depending on the battery configuration, the hatchback delivers a CLTC-rated range of 222 km to 328 km. The corresponding WLTP figures are approximately 182 km to 269 km. Its maximum speed is 103 km/h.

With prices ranging from 44,900 to 54,900 yuan (approximately $6,735 to $8,230), the five-door Bestune Pony combines compact dimensions with improved everyday usability for urban drivers.
