FBR releases ATL 2026 with record 8 million income tax filers

Pakistan’s tax authority publishes the latest ATL after receiving a record number of income tax returns by the extended October 31 deadline.

Islamabad, November 2, 2026: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday issued the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) 2026, featuring taxpayers who filed their income tax returns for tax year 2026 by October 31.

According to the latest list, more than 8 million taxpayers submitted their income tax returns, marking a record number of filers by the deadline.

The original return filing deadline for tax year 2026 was September 30, 2026. However, the FBR subsequently extended the date to October 15 and then October 31 to facilitate taxpayers.

Despite expectations among taxpayers that the deadline might receive another extension, the tax authority did not announce any further extension beyond October 31.

The Active Taxpayers List is an important document for individuals and businesses undertaking financial transactions in Pakistan. Inclusion in the list enables taxpayers to benefit from lower withholding tax rates on certain transactions compared with those not appearing on the ATL.

It also provides access to various tax benefits available under the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

FBR officials said taxpayers who failed to submit their returns by the extended deadline but subsequently filed them would face applicable penalties and fines.

They would also be required to pay the prescribed surcharge to secure inclusion in the Active Taxpayers List.

The issuance of ATL 2026 marks the completion of the latest return filing cycle and provides an updated record of active income tax filers in the country.
