Islamabad, November 4, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially announced that taxpayers who missed the October 31 deadline can now file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 until November 15, 2025.
In a late-night statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the FBR spokesperson dismissed “misleading reports” circulating online that claimed many taxpayers had been declared inactive.
“No taxpayer who submitted an extension application within the prescribed timeframe has been removed from the Active Taxpayers List (ATL),” the spokesperson clarified.
According to the FBR, the ATL for Tax Year 2025 will be based on returns filed for Tax Year 2024 along with new filers for 2025 up to November 15, 2025. All taxpayers who filed an online extension request have automatically been granted an additional 15 days to complete their filing.
The FBR also highlighted that manual filing of income tax returns has been discontinued under recent amendments to the Income Tax Rules. However, to ease the transition, individuals who filed manually last year are being given a one-month facilitation period to shift to e-filing through the IRIS portal.
“Taxpayers who missed the deadline may still apply online for an extension until November 15, 2025, by submitting valid reasons for the delay to the concerned Commissioner,” the FBR statement added.
This development comes amid growing criticism from tax professionals and associations regarding technical glitches, deadline rigidity, and procedural challenges during the 2025 filing season. The FBR’s decision to extend the date is expected to provide major relief to millions of taxpayers struggling with the return filing process.
