Karachi, September 2, 2024 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Monday the appointment of Muhammad Junaid Jalil Khan as the new Member Customs Operations. Khan, an officer of BS-21 in the Pakistan Customs Service (PCS), was previously serving as the Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (South) Karachi.
The appointment of Junaid Jalil Khan to the key position of Member Customs Operations comes as part of the recent efforts of the FBR to enhance revenue generation and improve the transparency of Pakistan’s taxation system. His extensive experience in customs enforcement is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the FBR operations.
Junaid Jalil Khan’s move to this significant role involved a transfer from his previous post, where he oversaw customs enforcement across the southern region of Karachi. During his tenure, Khan was instrumental in curbing smuggling activities and ensuring compliance with customs regulations, contributing to the FBR’s broader objective of bolstering revenue collection.
In a related development, the FBR assigned the additional charge of Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (South) Karachi to Irfan-ur-Rehman. Rehman, who is currently serving as the Chief Collector of Customs (Exports) in Karachi, will manage the dual responsibilities until a permanent appointment is made. Rehman’s experience in overseeing exports is expected to complement his new enforcement duties, ensuring a seamless transition during this period of administrative reshuffling.
The recent changes in FBR top management are part of a broader administrative overhaul aimed at revitalizing the organization’s performance. The FBR is focused on increasing revenue generation, enhancing the efficiency of tax collection, and fostering a more transparent taxation environment. The appointment of experienced officers like Khan and Rehman to key roles reflects the FBR’s commitment to these goals.
Additionally, the FBR issued directives regarding the continuity of performance allowances for officers affected by the recent transfers. Officers who were receiving performance allowances prior to the issuance of the latest notification will continue to draw these allowances at their new postings, except for those assigned to FBR Headquarters in Islamabad.
The FBR has also instructed all officers involved in the recent transfers to promptly send charge relinquishment and assumption reports to the FBR. This directive is part of the FBR’s efforts to ensure a smooth and orderly transition as the new appointments take effect.
The appointment of Junaid Jalil Khan as Member Customs Operations marks a significant step in the FBR’s ongoing reforms and its drive towards a more efficient and transparent taxation system in Pakistan.
