Tax authority seeks vacancy details for BS-01 to BS-15 posts to support recruitment and strengthen tax administration
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated a nationwide assessment of staff shortages across its Inland Revenue (IR) field formations to identify vacant positions and facilitate recruitment under the direct quota system.
In an official communication, the FBR directed all Director Generals Inland Revenue and Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue to furnish detailed information on vacancies in BS-01 to BS-15 posts as of July 1, 2026.
The exercise forms part of the tax authority’s broader efforts to strengthen human resource planning, improve operational efficiency and reinforce tax administration by addressing staffing gaps in field offices.
Vacancy details sought
The FBR has asked all Inland Revenue field formations to provide comprehensive information for each post, including:
• Name and designation of the post;
• Total sanctioned strength;
• Number of employees currently serving under the direct recruitment quota; and
• Number of vacant posts under the direct recruitment quota.
The collected data will enable the FBR Headquarters to assess workforce shortages across Inland Revenue offices and determine future recruitment requirements.
Deadline set for July 31
The FBR has instructed all Director Generals and Chief Commissioners to treat the matter as a priority and submit the required information to the Board by July 31, 2026.
The exercise is expected to provide the tax authority with a comprehensive overview of staffing deficiencies across its field formations, allowing it to plan recruitment more effectively and ensure adequate manpower for tax administration.
Strengthening institutional capacity
The latest initiative comes as the FBR continues implementing organisational reforms aimed at enhancing institutional capacity and improving revenue collection.
By identifying vacancies in supporting staff positions, the tax authority intends to strengthen the operational capabilities of Inland Revenue offices, improve taxpayer services and ensure more efficient implementation of tax laws across the country.
The assessment is also expected to support future recruitment drives under the direct recruitment quota, helping the FBR fill critical positions that contribute to the smooth functioning of its field formations.
