FBR chairman rallies tax officials to boost revenue collection

ISLAMABAD, April 29, 2025 — Rashid Mahmood Langrial, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has urged tax officials across the country to utilize their full potential to bring transparency to their operations and significantly boost revenue collection.

Addressing officials via video conference on Monday, the FBR chief emphasized that the coming months are critical for achieving the nation’s fiscal targets, reported by APP.

Following the chairman’s directives, a special strategy meeting was convened at the Regional Tax Office (RTO) in Peshawar, presided over by Chief Commissioner Yasir Ali. All Zonal and Additional Commissioners participated in the session. During the meeting, Yasir Ali stressed the importance of fully implementing the comprehensive revenue enhancement plan outlined by Chairman FBR and Member Inland Revenue Appraiser, insisting that every officer must act with integrity and efficiency.

To support this initiative, the FBR has rolled out an automated system at the regional level to monitor the performance and integrity of tax officials more effectively. This digital monitoring aims to minimize irregularities and strengthen confidence in the tax collection process, ultimately aiding efforts to meet ambitious revenue targets.

In a parallel move to intensify tax collection, the FBR recently issued a notification mandating that all field formations—including Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Tax Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs)—will observe Saturdays as full working days until June 30, 2025. This measure is designed to enhance operational efficiency and maximize every opportunity to bolster revenue streams.

FBR insiders revealed that the organization is under significant pressure to meet the revenue collection benchmarks set for the current fiscal year. Despite prevailing economic challenges, the FBR remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding the tax base and improving enforcement. The decision to extend the working week underscores the urgency of increasing taxpayer engagement and accelerating tax assessments.

By stepping up efforts on multiple fronts, the FBR hopes to not only meet but exceed its revenue goals for FY25, reinforcing the critical role that strong tax administration plays in Pakistan’s broader economic stability.
