Islamabad, September 29, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially confirmed that the deadline for return filing of income for the tax year 2025 will not be extended beyond September 30, 2025.
In a press release, the FBR rejected unverified reports circulating on social and mainstream media suggesting that the return filing deadline might be postponed due to floods in parts of the country. The authority clarified that such news is baseless, misleading, and aimed at creating confusion among taxpayers.
According to the FBR, the vast majority of taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and have had sufficient time to complete their return filing obligations. The tax regulator stressed that adhering to the deadline for return submission is a legal responsibility and urged taxpayers to file returns without delay.
The FBR also dismissed claims that its IRIS portal is facing disruptions. Officials confirmed that the system is fully operational, and taxpayers can smoothly complete their return filing process using the newly simplified online forms.
The statement further warned that those who fail to meet the return filing deadline will face penalties, late-filer status, and possible legal consequences under income tax laws.
However, in cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may seek an extension of up to fifteen days, provided they deposit due taxes by September 30, 2025, and secure approval from the relevant committee.
The FBR emphasized that timely and accurate filing of returns strengthens national revenue and supports economic stability.
