Islamabad, March 16, 2026 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday announced the formation of two departmental committees tasked with recommending promotions for officials within the Inland Revenue Service (IRS). The move aims to streamline the promotion process and recognize the performance of officers across various grades in the department.
The first committee, Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) No. I, has been constituted with the approval of the FBR chairman to make recommendations for promotions of officers from BS-17 to BS-18, ex-cadre FBR officers, and officials from BS-16 to BS-17. The committee is chaired by the Member (Administration/HR), with the Chief (Management/HR-IR) and Chief (Revenue-Operations) serving as members. The Secretary Management/HR-IR acts as the secretary, and the Secretary Legal-HR is a co-opted member.
The second committee, DPC No. II, is responsible for recommending promotions of officials from BS-11 to BS-17 across the Inland Revenue Department and FBR headquarters. This committee is chaired by the Chief (Management/HR-IR), with the Secretary Management/HR-IR (BS-19) as a member. Another Secretary Management/HR-IR (BS-19/BS-18) serves as member-cum-secretary, while the Secretary Legal-HR is co-opted.
The FBR emphasized that these committees are established to ensure transparency, merit-based promotions, and efficiency in the department’s administrative and revenue operations. Officials and stakeholders can expect recommendations from these committees to streamline career progressions and strengthen the operational capacity of the Inland Revenue Service, supporting the government’s broader goals of efficient tax administration in Pakistan.
This step highlights FBR’s continued focus on professional development and institutional strengthening of its workforce to meet national revenue targets.
