FBR extends June tax return filing deadline to August 4

Income Tax Return FBR

Islamabad, July 25, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the last date for filing Sales Tax and Federal Excise returns for the tax period of June 2025. According to a notification issued on Thursday, taxpayers now have until August 4, 2025 to complete their filing, provided that the due tax liability has already been deposited within the original due date.

This extension, announced by the FBR, offers much-needed relief to businesses and individuals who faced challenges in meeting the earlier return filing deadline of July 18, 2025. The decision has been made in accordance with powers granted under Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.

To ensure compliance and proper implementation, the FBR has issued detailed instructions to Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue across Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs). These field formations are expected to facilitate taxpayers and monitor the return filing process closely.

The FBR reiterated that while the filing deadline has been extended, this relaxation only applies to returns for which the due tax payment has been made within the originally prescribed deadline. Taxpayers failing to meet the payment requirement will not be eligible for the extension benefit.

This move is part of FBR’s broader strategy to encourage compliance and ease the tax return filing burden, especially for businesses dealing with complex documentation and reporting requirements. The extension is seen as a practical step toward improving voluntary tax compliance and providing administrative flexibility in the post-budget 2025 period.
