Karachi, March 18, 2026 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has granted a special storage facility to DP World at Port Qasim to handle international transshipment cargo, citing the ongoing crisis linked to the Iran war and heightened tensions in the Gulf region.
According to an official notification, SRO 518(I)/2026, the FBR has authorized M/s. DP World (Qasim International Container Terminal) to utilize a designated berth backup area for the temporary storage of cargo units. The facility is located at Plot No. SP-05, covering approximately 16.9 acres in the North Eastern Industrial Zone of the Port Qasim Authority in Karachi.
The decision comes in response to emergency conditions and disruptions in regional shipping routes, which have increased the need for efficient cargo handling and storage solutions at key ports in Pakistan.
Officials stated that the designated storage area will help ease congestion at terminals and ensure the smooth flow of international transshipment cargo during the current geopolitical uncertainty. The move is also expected to support trade continuity and prevent delays in cargo clearance.
The specified boundaries of the storage site include PQA reserved roads on the north, south, and west sides, while the eastern boundary adjoins a two-acre plot identified as BBA-SP-05 within the same industrial zone.
Industry experts believe the temporary arrangement will strengthen Pakistan’s logistics capacity and enhance its role as a regional transshipment hub during the ongoing crisis.
