Islamabad, August 22, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) organized a return filing awareness session at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Friday, aimed at promoting a stronger tax culture and guiding taxpayers on compliance procedures.
Addressing the gathering, ICCI President Nasir Mansoor Qureshi highlighted that the business community is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and remains fully committed to contributing towards economic stability. He praised the FBR for initiating such interactive sessions, terming the event both timely and educative for taxpayers.
Qureshi further emphasized the need for FBR to adopt a facilitative approach, stating that “velvet hammering instead of blunt enforcement” would encourage voluntary compliance and broaden the tax base. He proposed setting up a permanent facilitation desk at ICCI to assist businesses with filing processes and other tax-related matters.
He also urged the continuation of such awareness programs across Islamabad and other cities, noting that these sessions not only enhance taxpayer education but also build stronger trust between the FBR and the business community.
Earlier in the session, Ms. Kiran Zehra, Secretary Compliance, introduced her team and reiterated that, under special instructions from the Chairman FBR, similar programs are being conducted nationwide. She emphasized that simplification of procedures and prioritization of taxpayer facilitation remain key principles for FBR before resorting to enforcement measures.
The session concluded with a commitment from both sides to collaborate closely in improving return filing compliance and strengthening Pakistan’s tax culture.
