Islamabad, January 28, 2026 — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday directed all Inland Revenue (IR) field formations to keep their collection counters open on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening revenue collection towards the end of the month.
Under normal circumstances, Saturdays are observed as a weekly holiday by Inland Revenue offices across the country. However, in view of ongoing revenue targets and to facilitate taxpayers, the FBR has decided to suspend the weekend closure for one day and ensure uninterrupted collection services.
According to official directives, all major tax offices, including Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Tax Office (MTO), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), have been instructed to observe normal working hours on the specified date. The decision is intended to provide additional time and convenience to individuals and businesses for depositing taxes, duties, and other government dues.
The FBR emphasized that the step would help ease last-minute pressure on taxpayers who may face difficulties in meeting deadlines during regular working days. It is also expected to support improved cash inflows for the exchequer at a critical stage of the fiscal cycle.
Tax officials have been asked to ensure full staff availability and smooth operations at collection counters to avoid delays and inconvenience. The FBR advised taxpayers to make use of the extended facility and complete their tax payments within the stipulated timeframe.
The move reflects the FBR’s ongoing efforts to enhance revenue mobilization while facilitating compliance through administrative flexibility.
