Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will not extend the last date for filing income tax returns, this was stated by Sardar Ali Khawaja, Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue at the Regional Tax Office (RTO) in Peshawar.

He emphasized the importance of timely tax filings during an online Khuli Kehchri held on Thursday. He clarified that the deadline for filing tax returns, set for September 30, 2021, will not be extended by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Addressing the online gathering at Tax House, Chief Commissioner Ali Khawaja underscored that the prompt submission of taxes is crucial for maintaining the economic stability of the country. He reaffirmed the FBR’s commitment to the stipulated deadline, urging taxpayers to adhere to the given timeframe for filing their returns.

The Chief Commissioner highlighted the proactive measures taken by the federal government, especially the directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan, in addressing the concerns of the trading community and taxpayers. Monthly online ‘Khuli Kehchri’ sessions have been a part of these efforts, providing a platform to resolve genuine problems faced by taxpayers.

Khawaja acknowledged the positive impact of the government’s initiatives, stating that many issues faced by taxpayers have been successfully resolved at their doorsteps. He encouraged taxpayers to actively participate in these sessions, emphasizing that the FBR is keen on ensuring a smooth and efficient tax filing process.

Responding to a query about tax exemptions in Malakand Division, the Chief Commissioner clarified that all newly merged districts and Malakand Division have been granted tax exemptions until June 2023. However, he expressed concern over some company owners taking advantage of the exemption by selling imported raw materials to settled areas, and he vowed to take legal measures to prevent such practices.

The tax exemption in Malakand Division aims to promote investment in the region and contribute to the socio-economic uplift of the local population. Ali Khawaja stressed the significance of the exemption for the welfare of the people.

During the online Khuli Kehchri, the Chief Commissioner issued immediate directives for the resolution of problems within his jurisdiction. Several key officials, including Commissioner (Corporate) Mohammad Tariq Jamal Khattak, Commissioner (Withholding Zone) Mohammad Ayaz, Commissioner (D.I. Khan Zone) Irfan Aziz, Commissioner (Peshawar Zone) Shaheed Mehboob, and others, were present to assist the Chief Commissioner.

The event witnessed active participation from the public through Facebook, with many expressing satisfaction over the government’s initiatives and its people-friendly approach. The online platform serves as an effective means for taxpayers to communicate their concerns and receive real-time resolutions, contributing to the overall efficiency and transparency of the tax administration system in Peshawar.
