Islamabad, September 23, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again reminded taxpayers that September 30 remains the official filing deadline for annual income tax returns for the tax year 2025.
As part of its nationwide awareness campaign, the FBR has urged individuals and businesses not to wait until the last moment to complete their return filing, emphasizing that timely compliance will help avoid penalties and system overloads.
The FBR noted that it has introduced a simplified tax return filing process for 2025, designed to take only a few minutes for self-filers. Through SRO 1561(I)/2025, issued on August 18, 2025, the finalized return form was notified for individuals, Associations of Persons (AOPs), and corporate entities. To further assist taxpayers, the new system also provides pre-filled data, which can be verified or corrected before submission, making the filing process more efficient.
According to the tax authority, the September 30 deadline applies to salaried individuals, businesspersons, and AOPs. However, companies operating on the July-to-June financial year cycle will have an extended deadline of December 31, 2025, to complete their tax return filing. Despite these measures, both taxpayers and tax professionals are anticipating a possible extension in the current deadline, citing disruptions caused by floods in several regions and ongoing technical issues with the IRIS online portal. The FBR has yet to announce any formal extension but continues to encourage taxpayers to meet the existing due dates.
