Islamabad – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday announced that it will observe normal working days on Saturday, June 22, 2024, and Sunday, June 23, 2024.

This decision aims to ensure the seamless collection of duties and taxes, pivotal for achieving fiscal targets.

In an official communiqué, the FBR conveyed this directive to the Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue across Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs). The notification emphasized the necessity for all tax offices to remain operational during these dates to facilitate the timely collection and realization of all pending payments of duties and taxes.

The decision to maintain operational status over the weekend arises from the impending Eid-ul-Adha holidays, scheduled from June 17 to June 19, 2024. Sources within the FBR highlighted that these holidays coincide with the crucial final month of the fiscal year 2023-24, a period critical for meeting the revenue collection targets. The extended holidays posed a potential threat to these efforts, prompting the FBR to take proactive measures.

“The last month of the fiscal year is crucial for revenue collection. The Eid holidays would significantly hamper our ability to meet the set targets,” an FBR insider disclosed. “Therefore, ensuring that our offices are open on June 22 and 23 is essential for sustaining the momentum in revenue collection.”

This directive underscores the FBR’s commitment to optimizing tax collection processes and meeting its fiscal responsibilities. By extending working days into the weekend, the FBR aims to mitigate any disruption caused by the Eid-ul-Adha holidays and ensure that the fiscal year’s revenue goals are not compromised.

This decision has been welcomed by stakeholders who acknowledge the importance of uninterrupted tax collection activities, especially in the final stretch of the fiscal year. The proactive approach by the FBR is expected to facilitate taxpayers in meeting their obligations promptly and support the government’s revenue collection objectives.

In conclusion, the FBR’s directive to observe normal working days on June 22 and 23 reflects a calculated response to maintain fiscal stability and achieve revenue targets amidst holiday disruptions.
