FBR transfers high-ranking customs officials amid ongoing anti-smuggling operation

On Wednesday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) transferred several high-ranking officials of the Pakistan Customs Service (PCS) to different positions as the country intensified its efforts to combat smuggling.

The FBR issued a notification stating that the transfers were effective immediately.

The following PCS officers have been affected by the transfers:

01. Dr. Zulfikar Ali Chaudhary (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) has been moved from his post as Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (Punjab), Custom House, Lahore, to the position of Director General at the Pakistan Customs Academy (PCA), Karachi.

02. Wajid Ali (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) has been transferred from his previous role as Director General at the PCA to the position of Director General at the Directorate General of Transit Trade, Karachi, with the added responsibility of overseeing the Directorate General of Transit Trade in Karachi.

03. Ms. Seema Raza Bokhari (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) has been relocated from her previous role as Project Director at the Pakistan Single Window, FBR (HQ), Islamabad, to the position of Director General at the Directorate General of Input Output Coefficient Organization, Karachi (Stationed at Islamabad), with additional responsibility as Project Director of the Pakistan Single Window at the FBR’s headquarters in Islamabad.

04. Mirza Mubashir Baig (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-21) has been reassigned from his role as Director General at the Directorate General of Input Output Coefficient Organization, Karachi (Stationed at Lahore), to the position of Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (Punjab), Custom House, Lahore.

These transfers are significant as they occur just two months before the end of the financial year when field offices are actively working to increase revenue collection.

The government has also directed authorities to intensify their anti-smuggling efforts, particularly with regard to sugar, wheat, and urea. Additionally, rampant smuggling of petroleum products has forced a refinery to temporarily shut down.
