FCCI seeks extension in 2025 tax return filing deadline

Income Tax Return FBR

Faisalabad, September 22, 2025 – The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) has urged the government to extend the deadline for income tax return filing for tax year 2025.

Currently, the official deadline for submitting annual returns is September 30, 2025, but the business community believes that meeting this date is becoming increasingly difficult under present conditions.

FCCI President Rehan Naseem Bharara, in a statement on Monday, stressed that the recent floods have created an agriculture and environmental emergency. He pointed out that over 6.3 percent of Punjab’s farmland is underwater, while roads, bridges, and other infrastructure have also suffered heavy losses. This situation has disrupted supply chains and mobility across the province.

Bharara explained that due to road closures, even citizens and businesses not directly affected by the floods are struggling to access essential services. In such a scenario, he said, expecting people to complete tax return filing by the existing deadline is unrealistic.

He appealed to the government to acknowledge the challenges and provide an extension. According to him, relaxing the deadline would help taxpayers fulfill their obligations without unnecessary pressure and encourage greater compliance. The FCCI president added that granting more time for tax return filing would also demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the business community and the wider population during a period of national crisis.
