The iconic Final Destination horror franchise is making a thrilling comeback, as Warner Bros. has confirmed that the seventh installment is officially in development.
The studio has brought back Lori Evans Taylor, the co-writer of Final Destination: Bloodlines, to pen the next chapter of the high-stakes supernatural saga.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision comes after the massive success of Bloodlines, which released in May and grossed an impressive $286 million worldwide, including $138.1 million domestically. This marked the franchise’s first release since 2011 and proved to be a major box office revival.
Bloodlines was the sixth entry in the series and quickly became one of its most successful films, doubling the domestic earnings of 2009’s The Final Destination. The film was co-written by Taylor alongside Guy Busick and Jon Watts, with Watts also serving as one of the producers. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the movie was produced by Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Dianne McGunigle, Toby Emmerich, and Watts himself.
The Final Destination series has now grossed over $983 million globally, securing its place as New Line Cinema’s third-biggest horror franchise, behind The Conjuring Universe ($2.3 billion) and the It films ($1.2 billion).
Lori Evans Taylor has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most prominent female horror writers. She adapted Carla Norton’s The Edge of Normal, set to wrap production in spring 2025 with Chloë Grace Moretz starring. Her previous work includes Cellar Door, her directorial debut Bed Rest, and an adaptation of I Am Still Alive for Universal, with Ben Affleck attached.
While plot details for Final Destination 7 remain under wraps, fans can expect the franchise’s signature suspense, elaborate death sequences, and supernatural twists. The series has been a cult favorite since its debut in 2000, captivating audiences with its inventive storytelling and relentless tension.
With Taylor’s return and Warner Bros.’ renewed focus on the franchise, Final Destination 7 aims to build on Bloodlines’ momentum and deliver another chilling cinematic experience. Horror fans worldwide will be eagerly awaiting updates as production moves forward.
