Islamabad, February 25, 2026 — The World Bank (WB) Country Director for Pakistan, Ms. Bolormaa Amgaabazar, met with Finance and Revenue Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday to discuss enhancing collaboration under the World Bank’s Country Partnership Framework (CPF) and advancing Pakistan’s key reform priorities.
During the meeting, both sides explored a broad range of development areas, including population management, human capital development, climate resilience, agriculture sector reforms, energy sector sustainability, and overall portfolio performance. A news release from the Finance Ministry stated that the discussions focused on strengthening federal-provincial coordination, improving policy coherence, and ensuring effective operationalization of the CPF.
Minister Aurangzeb emphasized the need for federal ministries to remain actively engaged in planning, monitoring, and oversight, even when implementation responsibilities rest with provincial governments. He highlighted the importance of aligning provincial initiatives with national reforms to drive sustainable growth, job creation, and structural improvements.
The World Bank Country Director reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to working closely with both federal and provincial stakeholders, enhancing information sharing, and improving transparency in project design, target-setting, and monitoring mechanisms.
Discussions also included the agriculture sector, focusing on boosting productivity, strengthening value chains, improving access to finance, and promoting private sector participation. The Bank expressed readiness to support ongoing agricultural transformation efforts, in collaboration with stakeholders including the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Energy sector reforms were another key topic, with both parties reviewing strategies to improve financial sustainability and long-term viability. The minister and the WB Country Director agreed to continue technical-level engagements to explore actionable solutions aligned with Pakistan’s fiscal framework and reform agenda.
Minister Aurangzeb appreciated the World Bank’s continued partnership and reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing structural reforms, improving governance, and ensuring that development programs deliver tangible benefits to the people of Pakistan.
The meeting underlined the ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and the World Bank to support economic stabilization, climate resilience, and human capital development across the country.
