Florence Pugh discusses good and bad intimacy coordinator experiences

Entertainment World

Acclaimed British actress Florence Pugh has opened up about her experiences working with intimacy coordinators, reflecting on both positive and negative encounters in a candid conversation on The Louis Theroux Podcast.

The 29-year-old star, known for her performances in Midsommar (2019), Little Women (2019), and Oppenheimer (2023), said she has had a mix of experiences while filming intimate scenes throughout her career.

“I’m having fantastic experiences with intimacy coordinators,” Pugh said. “However, I’ve also had a s*** example.”

Pugh recalled one particularly uncomfortable experience where the coordinator “made it so weird and so awkward and really wasn’t helpful,” adding that the individual “seemed to want to be part of the set in a way that wasn’t needed.”

She emphasized that the role of intimacy coordinators is still “figuring itself out,” but acknowledged how vital it can be when done right.

“When I worked with a fantastic coordinator, I realized what I’d been missing — understanding the dance of intimacy instead of just shooting a scene,” she shared.

The Don’t Worry Darling actress concluded by highlighting the value of good professionals in the field, noting, “There are good ones and bad ones, and through the good ones, I’ve learned how effective it can really be.”

Pugh’s comments have sparked renewed discussion in Hollywood about the growing importance of intimacy coordination in ensuring safety, respect, and authenticity on set.
