Upcoming Ford electric ute, expected in 2027, will debut embedded Apple Maps and introduce next-generation manufacturing innovations.
Ford is preparing to launch an affordable electric ute that will mark a significant milestone for the automaker by becoming its first vehicle equipped with embedded Apple Maps navigation.
Scheduled to enter production in 2027, the upcoming electric pickup is widely rumored to revive the iconic Ranchero nameplate and will introduce a range of advanced technologies aimed at improving the EV driving experience.
The new model will be built on Ford’s upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, which is expected to serve as the foundation for several future electric vehicles.
According to the company, all vehicles based on the UEV architecture will come with Apple Maps integrated directly into the infotainment system.
Ford says the embedded Apple Maps platform will provide turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, incident alerts, location search functionality, and EV-specific route planning.
The system will also support battery preconditioning, helping optimize charging performance by preparing the battery before arriving at charging stations.
In addition to enhancing navigation, Ford is leveraging Apple Maps data for the next generation of its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology.
Developed by Ford’s LatitudeAI division, the upgraded system will use road-level mapping information to improve autonomous driving capabilities across North American highways. The advanced BlueCruise system is expected to debut as an optional feature in the new electric ute in 2028.
The move highlights a growing shift in the automotive industry’s approach to navigation software. While many automakers rely on Android Automotive and built-in Google Maps services, Ford’s adoption of Apple Maps could encourage other manufacturers to explore alternative navigation ecosystems.
Industry reports suggest the electric ute could be officially unveiled later this year. With an estimated starting price of around $30,000, it is expected to become one of the most affordable vehicles in Ford’s U.S. lineup.
Recent prototype sightings in California indicate the vehicle will retain a traditional pickup truck appearance, though it features a sharply sloped windshield for improved aerodynamics.
Ford is also introducing cost-saving production methods such as gigacasting, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, and efficient electric motors to keep pricing competitive with gasoline-powered models.
Beyond the ute, Ford plans to expand the UEV platform with SUVs, sedans, and vans, reinforcing its long-term commitment to affordable electric mobility.
