Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel have offered fans a first glimpse of Disney’s highly anticipated Frozen 3, teasing new adventures, romance and a mysterious new villain.
Disney has given fans their first look at Frozen 3, with Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel unveiling footage from the highly anticipated animated sequel during the D23 event in Anaheim, California, on Friday.
The presentation at the Honda Center offered a glimpse at the next chapter in the story of sisters Anna and Elsa, as they prepare to leave Arendelle once again and enter a world filled with new mysteries and dangers.
Bell is returning as Anna, while Menzel will reprise her role as Elsa. Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad are also back as Kristoff and Olaf, respectively.
The first footage reportedly featured a major romantic development, with Anna and Kristoff preparing for their wedding and honeymoon. Olaf, meanwhile, appears to have his own romantic storyline involving a new character named Samantha.
The footage also showcased new music, a striking aurora and scenes from Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, adding a lighter and more celebratory tone to the upcoming sequel.
However, the preview also introduced a mysterious new element to Elsa’s journey. The character discovers a strange stone that appears to open a portal leading to a snowy dimension.
Menzel described the mysterious setting as a frozen land that is more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has previously created, hinting at a significantly darker adventure for the character.
The footage ended with the appearance of a mysterious witch dressed in black. The new character is reportedly expected to be voiced by Greta Lee, although further details about the character have not been revealed.
‘Frozen 3’ release date
Frozen 3 will continue the story established in the first two films and expand the magical world beyond Arendelle.
The original Frozen was released in 2013 by Walt Disney Animation Studios and followed Anna’s journey as she teamed up with Kristoff and his reindeer Sven to find Elsa after her powers plunged Arendelle into an eternal winter.
The sequel, Frozen 2, expanded the mythology surrounding Elsa’s powers and the sisters’ family history.
Disney is scheduled to release Frozen 3 in cinemas on November 24, 2027.
