Google has introduced a new photo-to-video feature in Gemini, enabling users to transform still images into eight-second video clips using its advanced Veo 3 video generation model.

This innovative tool is now available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in selected countries and can be accessed via Gemini.

Launched in May, Veo 3 has already gained immense popularity, with over 40 million AI-generated videos created across the Gemini app and Flow in just seven weeks.

Now, the addition of photo-to-video capabilities offers users a new way to express creativity—whether it’s animating personal photos, reimagining classic stories, or generating nature scenes with added motion and sound.

To use the feature, users simply select the “Videos” option from the tool menu, upload a photo, and type a brief description of the scene or desired sound effects. Gemini then turns the static image into a dynamic, AI-generated video complete with audio. Once the video is created, users can download it or instantly share it with friends and family.

This new photo-to-video experience is also integrated into Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking platform, giving creators even more flexibility to explore visual storytelling.

Google emphasizes that user safety remains a top priority. The tech giant employs rigorous internal testing, known as “red teaming,” to proactively address potential misuse and continuously improve system reliability. In addition, all generated content features a visible watermark and a SynthID digital watermark to clearly indicate AI origin.

To ensure responsible use and continued platform improvement, Google encourages users to provide feedback on their AI-generated videos through thumbs-up or thumbs-down options.

The launch of Gemini’s photo-to-video feature underscores Google’s ongoing commitment to blending creative innovation with responsible AI development. As this tool becomes more widely available, users around the globe can expect to unlock new possibilities in AI-powered video generation.

For those eager to try it, the feature is now rolling out to Pro users in over 150 countries.
