George R.R. Martin has recently announced that the highly anticipated next Game of Thrones spin-off is set to premiere in 2025.
The prequel, currently titled “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms,” began filming in Belfast last week. This new series is based on Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” and while an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed, fans can look forward to its debut early next year.
Martin provided an update on his “Not A Blog” on June 2, shedding light on the progress of the series.
“Filming started last week in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where much of the original Game of Thrones was shot,” Martin wrote. He added, “Based on my novella The Hedge Knight, the new show will debut early next year, in 2025.”
Martin also noted that the new series will consist of only six episodes. “A novella is considerably shorter than a novel (particularly one of my novels), so there’s less source material,” he explained. Despite the shorter format, Martin assured fans that production is going “very well.”
In addition to the production update, Martin revealed his plans to visit the set and meet the cast in mid-July, indicating his continued involvement and enthusiasm for the project.
“A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms” promises to deliver a fresh and exciting narrative set in the richly detailed world of Westeros. The novella “The Hedge Knight” follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, who would later become King Aegon V Targaryen.
Their story is set about a century before the events of Game of Thrones, offering fans a deeper look into the history and lore of the realm.
The announcement of this spin-off has already generated significant excitement among fans of the franchise. With Martin’s active participation and the familiar setting of Belfast, expectations are high for this new chapter in the Game of Thrones saga.
Stay tuned for more updates on “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms,” and prepare for another thrilling journey into the world of Westeros in 2025.
