Abdul Aleem Khan invites transporters to Islamabad, orders immediate enforcement of axle load limits and action against corruption.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has assured Pakistan’s goods transportation sector that its legitimate concerns will be addressed on a priority basis, while making it clear that overloaded vehicles will not be permitted to enter motorways.
The minister held a video-link meeting with representatives of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance to discuss key issues affecting the sector, including axle load limits, relevant SROs, movement of heavy vehicles on motorways and other operational challenges.
Transporters Invited to Islamabad
Abdul Aleem Khan invited a delegation of goods transporters to Islamabad on Monday for a detailed discussion on their concerns. He stressed that dialogue between the government and transport sector was necessary to resolve outstanding issues without disrupting the national transportation system.
The minister also assured representatives that the concerns of Mazda operators and 10-wheelers would receive priority consideration. Transporters were encouraged to continue discussions with the government instead of adopting extreme measures.
Strict Action Against Overloading
The federal minister directed that the axle load policy be implemented immediately across motorways and national highways. He emphasized that no overloaded vehicle would be allowed to enter the motorway network.
He urged transporters to comply with prescribed weight limits and cooperate with authorities to protect Pakistan’s road infrastructure. The government considers motorways and national highways important national assets that require collective responsibility from transport operators and enforcement agencies.
Motorway Police Face Anti-Corruption Drive
Abdul Aleem Khan also directed the Inspector General of Motorway Police to eliminate corruption from the department within one month. Officials found involved in bribery or other malpractice are to face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal and criminal proceedings where applicable.
The minister stressed that the axle load policy could only succeed through transparent enforcement and cooperation between transporters and government departments.
Transport Sector Backs Policy
Representatives of various goods transportation organizations briefed the minister about their operational difficulties and welcomed the government’s axle load policy. They also assured the authorities of continued cooperation in its implementation.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary Communications, Inspector General Motorway Police, transport secretaries from all four provinces and other relevant officials. Representatives of several transport organizations also participated and presented their concerns regarding the sector.
