Google Chat Unveils 7 New Features for Effortless Communication

Google Chat is revolutionizing the way we connect with each other. Whether you’re organizing activities with your softball team, planning trips with friends, or sharing funny videos with family members, staying in touch has become easier than ever.

Google Chat has introduced seven new and upcoming features that will enhance the convenience and joy of messaging your loved ones.

Smart Compose: This feature, already available in Gmail and Google Docs, allows you to effortlessly compose responses in Chat. With contextually-aware suggestions, it minimizes spelling and grammar errors. As you type, relevant suggestions appear, and you can accept them with a simple tap of the tab key. Smart Compose is now rolling out to all Chat web users, supporting multiple languages.

Message Editing: Ever regretted sending a message? Now you can fine-tune the messages you’ve already sent to ensure clarity, accuracy, and the right tone. Alternatively, you can easily delete the message if starting afresh is the better option. This feature is now available to all Chat users.

Quoting Messages: Group chats can get overwhelming when they move rapidly and cover multiple topics. To maintain organization and keep everyone in sync, you can now quote a specific message when replying. This allows the group to identify the comment you’re responding to without interrupting the main discussion. The quote feature is now accessible to all Chat users.

Read Receipts for Group Messages: Uncertainty about message delivery or read status can be a hassle. With read receipts for group messages in Chat, you’ll receive confirmation when someone reads your message. Their avatar will appear below the message, and for larger group chats, you can hover or tap to view the complete list of recipients. Read receipts are now available for group messages on mobile and web.

Hyperlinking Text: Instead of cluttering conversations with long URLs, you can now hyperlink relevant text within your messages, similar to Google Docs or Slides. Simply select the desired text, click on the “Insert link” icon in the formatting toolbar, and paste or type the URL. This feature will be available on web and Android soon.

Conversation Management: To help you declutter and stay organized, you can choose to hide direct messages and inactive spaces older than seven days. This feature kicks in if you have more than ten conversations or spaces. Your full list of conversations remains easily accessible, and any new messages will bring the hidden conversations back to the top.

Chat Apps Integration: Elevate your conversation management experience by adding useful apps to your group chats and spaces. For example, you can add Asana to create to-do lists and assign responsibilities, or install Zapier for custom notifications. Additionally, you can spice up your chats with GIFs from Giphy. Soon, you will have the ability to download apps for personal chats and spaces, expanding their capabilities.

By integrating these new and upcoming features, Google Chat aims to simplify and enhance your communication with friends and family. Stay connected effortlessly and enjoy a seamless messaging experience.
