Artificial intelligence chatbots have become an essential part of everyday online activity. Many users rely on tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for writing, research, coding, and general productivity tasks.
These AI assistants learn from users over time, analyzing conversations, preferences, and past interactions to provide more relevant and personalized responses.
However, switching between AI chatbots has often been inconvenient. When users move from one service to another, they usually lose access to their previous conversation history and personalized settings. This means starting over and rebuilding preferences from scratch, which can take time.
Google is now working to simplify this process with a new feature for Gemini that allows it to access and import chat history from other AI chatbots. The company has introduced a tool called Import Memory, designed to make switching between AI platforms much easier.
With the new feature, users can transfer important information from their previous AI chatbot conversations into Gemini. To start the process, users simply click the “Import memory in Gemini” option. This action generates a prompt that must be copied and pasted into the AI chatbot they are currently using.
Once the chatbot generates a response, users can copy that response and paste it into Gemini’s import tool. After the information is processed, Gemini can learn from the imported data and use it to generate more contextual and personalized replies.
By gaining access to these past interactions, Gemini can understand a user’s interests, writing style, and preferences much faster. This helps the AI assistant deliver more accurate and relevant responses right from the beginning.
Users also have another option for transferring their data. Instead of using the prompt method, they can export their chat history from other AI chatbots and upload it directly to Gemini. The platform supports ZIP file uploads of up to 5GB, allowing users to transfer large conversation archives.
Despite this improvement, there are some limitations. Gemini currently cannot import project files or attachments that may have been shared within conversations on other AI platforms.
The new feature highlights Google’s effort to make Gemini more user-friendly and flexible while encouraging users to try its AI assistant without losing their existing chatbot history.
