New Gemini Notebooks tool lets users add text, Drive files, YouTube and web links more easily.

Google is rolling out a new feature for Gemini Notebooks designed to make adding sources faster and easier for users. The update introduces an “Add a source to Gemini Notebook” step that can automatically add new material to a notebook.

The latest change follows Google’s earlier introduction of automatic Google Drive syncing for Gemini Notebooks, which made it easier for users to keep their notebook sources updated.

With the new feature, users can add different types of material as sources, including text, links to files stored in Google Drive, YouTube URLs and general web links. Previously, users had to add sources individually, making the process more time-consuming when working with multiple references.

Google begins gradual Gemini Notebooks rollout

Google announced the new feature in a blog post, saying the rollout began on August 6. However, the company is releasing it gradually, meaning some users may not see the option immediately.

According to Google, it could take up to 15 business days for the feature to become available to eligible customers.

Once enabled, the new source-adding step should simplify the process of building and maintaining Gemini Notebooks, particularly for users who regularly work with information from multiple locations.

The update is focused specifically on reducing the manual work involved in adding sources rather than changing how users interact with the information already stored in their notebooks.

Personal Google accounts excluded

Despite the usefulness of the new feature, it will not be available to everyone.

Google says “Add a source to Gemini Notebook” is being offered to Workspace customers across several plans. These include Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Standard and Plus; and Education Fundamentals, Standard and Plus.

Users accessing Gemini with personal Google accounts will not receive the feature as part of this rollout.

The update represents another step in Google’s effort to make Gemini Notebooks more convenient for users who rely on multiple sources when organising and working with information.

As the gradual rollout continues, eligible Workspace customers should see the new source-adding option appear in Gemini Notebooks over the coming days.
