Google has officially introduced Gemini for Education, a no-cost version of its Gemini app designed specifically for schools, teachers, and students.

Powered by the advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model and enhanced with LearnLM learning science technology, the platform aims to support lesson planning, research, assessments, and personalized learning — while maintaining strong data privacy protections.

Gemini for Education functions as an AI-powered teaching and learning assistant, helping educators create lesson plans faster, generate classroom resources, and adapt content to meet different student learning levels. Teachers can use the tool to develop quizzes, assignments, rubrics, and practice materials either from scratch or based on previous examples, saving valuable preparation time and increasing classroom efficiency.

One of the standout features of Gemini for Education is its ability to differentiate course material. Educators can quickly adjust reading levels, rewrite assignments, and tailor content around student interests to boost engagement and accessibility. The tool also supports brainstorming, research, and creative exploration, making it useful for both teachers and students.

Google emphasizes that the platform has been purpose-built for responsible use in education. Students under 18 receive a tailored experience with additional safeguards and AI literacy resources. The company also highlights its privacy-first approach — user data is not human-reviewed and is not used to train AI models, providing institutions with added security and trust.

Administrators are given full control and visibility through the Google Admin console. They can manage user access, review usage trends, and search Gemini conversations using Vault to support institutional transparency and governance.

Gemini for Education is free for schools worldwide and can be activated through Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals or used as a standalone application. Institutions can also upgrade to access deeper integrations with Google Workspace tools.

Google says the new AI platform is already helping educators save hours on research, organize workflows, create custom AI experts, and support learning on the go. The company positions Gemini for Education as a powerful catalyst for digital learning, aiming to empower classrooms while keeping administrators in control.

As AI adoption in education continues to grow globally, Gemini for Education marks a major step in making intelligent learning tools more accessible, secure, and student-focused for institutions everywhere.
