Google has officially introduced Personal Intelligence for Gemini, a new opt-in feature designed to deliver more personalized and context-aware AI interactions.

The feature securely connects Gemini with select Google apps, allowing it to provide tailored responses based on a user’s own data. The rollout is beginning in the US and will expand over the next week for eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers across the web, Android, and iOS platforms.

Personal Intelligence enables Gemini to access information from apps such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Photos, once users grant permission. By linking these services, Gemini can retrieve relevant details from emails, photos, videos, and searches to answer questions more accurately and efficiently.

Users in the US can check availability by opening the Gemini app or website and navigating to Settings > Personal Intelligence. From there, they can choose which Google apps they want to connect, giving them full control over how their data is used. The feature can also be turned off at any time.

According to Google, the main advantage of Personal Intelligence is its ability to pull specific, user-relevant information from personal content. For example, Gemini can help locate details from past emails, identify people or places in photos, or reference previous searches to deliver “uniquely tailored answers” across text, images, and video.

Google emphasizes privacy and security as key pillars of this update. Since the connected data already exists within Google’s ecosystem, users do not need to upload sensitive information to third-party services. For those who prefer non-personalized interactions, temporary chats are available, allowing conversations with Gemini without accessing connected apps.

The company also addressed concerns around sensitive data. Gemini is designed to avoid making proactive assumptions about personal topics such as health, although it will discuss such information if users explicitly request it.

Importantly, Google clarified that Gemini will not be trained directly on personal content from Gmail or Google Photos. Instead, limited data—such as user prompts and Gemini’s responses—may be used to improve functionality over time.

With Personal Intelligence, Google aims to make Gemini a more helpful and personalized AI assistant while maintaining transparency, user choice, and data security.
