Google is gearing up to unveil its Pixel 10 smartphone lineup on August 20, and a fresh leak has revealed an exciting new feature for photography enthusiasts.

The Google Pixel 10 series will reportedly introduce macro photography capabilities to its telephoto cameras, allowing users to capture detailed close-up shots with enhanced zoom.

This new “tele-macro” functionality marks a notable upgrade, especially for users who enjoy shooting subjects at very close range. Interestingly, Google is not abandoning the macro functionality on its ultrawide lenses either.

The upcoming Google Pixel 10 phones will retain ultrawide cameras equipped with autofocus, which continue to support macro shots. However, the ultrawide lenses are expected to focus closer than the telephoto lens.

In practical terms, users will now have two macro options: the telephoto lens for higher-quality close-ups and the ultrawide lens for capturing subjects at very short distances.

While the tele-macro is likely to deliver superior image quality, the ultrawide lens will remain a reliable fallback when shooting extremely close subjects that exceed the telephoto’s minimum focusing distance.

Alongside camera improvements, the Google Pixel 10 series is expected to be powered by Google’s new Tensor G5 chipset, which is reportedly being manufactured by TSMC for the first time. This switch could result in notable gains in performance and energy efficiency, addressing past concerns tied to Samsung-made Tensor chips.

The Pixel 10 lineup is rumored to hit store shelves on August 28, shortly after its official unveiling. Reports also suggest a refresh in color options, giving the devices a new visual appeal.

In terms of charging, the Pixel 10 family is set to support Qi2 wireless charging. However, unlike Apple’s MagSafe approach, Google will rely on magnetic elements embedded in its official phone cases, not the phones themselves, to align with chargers.

With these enhancements, especially in photography and performance, the Pixel 10 series appears poised to compete strongly in the premium smartphone segment. More details are expected to surface as the launch date approaches.
