Google has released the second Beta version of Android 15, extending its reach beyond Pixel devices to various partner manufacturers.
Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi are among the brands now offering the Beta for “handset, tablet, and foldable form factors.” The rollout follows Google’s outlined timeline, with subsequent betas slated for June and July before the final public release.
One notable feature introduced in this beta is “Private Space,” enabling users to create a secluded area for sensitive apps, akin to existing functionalities in various Android skins. Private Space operates through a separate user profile, paused when locked, ensuring app activity cessation. Users can opt for device or separate locks, with apps housed in a distinct container within the launcher, hidden from recents view, notifications, and settings when locked.
Android 15 promises smoother transitions, limiting app foreground runtime to six hours to curb battery drain. Enhanced AV1 software decoding, efficient multitasking on large screens with a pinned taskbar, and smoother Picture-in-Picture transitions are among the improvements. Widgets now offer previews pre-addition, and Predictive Back facilitates navigation. Additionally, customizable vibrations for incoming notifications by channel and new data types in Google’s Health Connect, including skin temperature and training plans, are introduced.
Furthermore, security measures have been bolstered against malicious background apps, thwarting attempts to manipulate user interactions. Changes ensure app authenticity by preventing overlays from misleading users. Users can now save preferred split-screen app combinations for swift access, enhancing multitasking efficiency.
These updates signify Google’s commitment to refining user experience, bolstering privacy, and fortifying security protocols in the upcoming Android iteration. As the Beta continues its rollout, users anticipate experiencing these enhancements firsthand while providing valuable feedback for further refinement ahead of the public release.
