Islamabad, August 16, 2025 – The federal government has announced a significant reduction in the price of high-speed diesel, bringing it down by Rs12.84 per litre, while deciding to keep petrol prices unchanged for the next fortnight.
The adjustment follows global fuel market trends and recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of high-speed diesel has been revised from Rs285.83 to Rs272.99 per litre, effective August 16, 2025. This cut is expected to provide relief to the transport and agriculture sectors, which heavily rely on diesel for goods movement and farming operations.
The government also reduced prices of other petroleum products, including superior kerosene oil and light diesel oil. However, petrol prices remain unchanged at Rs264.61 per litre, which may disappoint urban commuters who primarily use petrol for daily transportation in motorcycles, small cars, and rickshaws.
Revised Petroleum Prices (per litre)
Product | Old Price (Aug 1) | New Price (Aug 16) | Change |
High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs285.83 | Rs272.99 | -Rs12.84 |
MS (Petrol) | Rs264.61 | Rs264.61 | 0.00 |
Superior Kerosene Oil | Rs185.46 | Rs178.27 | -Rs7.19 |
Light Diesel Oil (LDO) | Rs170.36 | Rs162.37 | -Rs8.20 |
High-speed diesel plays a pivotal role in powering trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery, and its price is considered inflationary as it affects the cost of transporting goods — including food items such as vegetables. The unchanged petrol price means limited direct relief for households, although the drop in transport and freight costs due to the diesel cut could indirectly benefit consumers.
