PM Shehbaz Sharif orders faster digitization, wider e-office adoption and early completion of Islamabad Technology Park
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to accelerate digital reforms and improve online public services to make them more accessible, efficient and responsive to citizens’ needs.
The prime minister issued the directives while chairing a meeting to review ongoing reforms at the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and assess progress on the construction of Islamabad Technology Park. The Prime Minister’s Office said the government considers digital transformation a key priority for improving service delivery.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed NITB to make government digital platforms more effective and aligned with modern technological requirements. He stressed that citizens should be able to access public services through convenient, transparent and efficient digital systems.
The prime minister also called for stronger coordination among relevant institutions to ensure that digital services are delivered without unnecessary delays. He emphasized that the digitization process should extend across government institutions and improve the overall efficiency of public administration.
During the meeting, the transition of federal ministries to e-office systems was highlighted as a major administrative reform. The prime minister directed authorities to ensure the effective implementation of e-office systems across subordinate departments and state-owned enterprises.
He further ordered authorities to speed up the digitization of government records, including information related to public properties. The measure is aimed at improving record management, transparency and accessibility within government institutions.
The meeting also reviewed the development of Islamabad Technology Park. Expressing concern over delays in its completion, Shehbaz Sharif instructed officials to accelerate construction and make the facility operational on a priority basis. He also directed that its management be fully outsourced.
Officials informed the meeting that NITB had completed its right-sizing process and made key appointments through transparent procedures. They added that all federal ministries had already shifted to e-office systems, while efforts were underway to expand digital operations to additional departments and state-owned enterprises.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Musadik Masood Malik and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with senior officials, attended the meeting.
