James Gunn, the mastermind behind the upcoming 2025 Superman movie, recently revealed that the film still requires “lots” of work even after wrapping up filming at the end of July.
However, fans curious about potential reshoots can rest easy—the writer-director doesn’t plan on extensive reshooting to complete the DC Comics blockbuster.
“Heck no. Once you’re done shooting, you’ve only just begun!” Gunn responded to fans on Threads, emphasizing that the completion of filming is just the beginning of an extensive post-production process. “Still lots of editing, VFX, sound, and scoring to be done!”
When a follower speculated that a significant amount of time would be spent on reshoots, Gunn confidently dismissed the notion, highlighting his past experiences with minimal reshoots.
“I don’t know. I’ve done a total of one day of reshoots on my past two films combined,” he shared, referencing his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) and DC’s The Suicide Squad (2021).
Gunn’s success in avoiding extensive reshoots is no accident. In response to a fan who asked how he achieves such efficiency, Gunn revealed six key strategies:
Over-prepare: Gunn ensures every detail is meticulously planned before the cameras start rolling.
Complete Script: He doesn’t begin shooting until the script is finished and has the approval of his entire team.
Experienced Team: Gunn hires actors and department heads he trusts to deliver high-quality work.
Challenging Environment: He surrounds himself with people who challenge his ideas rather than just agreeing with him.
Attention to Detail: Daily, he asks himself if there are any small imperfections in the script or filming that could become major issues during editing.
Double Down: Gunn emphasizes the importance of preparation, repeating that steps 1 and 2 are crucial to his process.
With this approach, fans can expect the upcoming Superman film to be polished, precise, and true to Gunn’s vision, with minimal need for post-production corrections.
